both shots are nice-love the angle on the first, especially for shots of young children-great lighting
2nd shot is well-framed but highlights are blown on the face-it's easy to do with their fair skin-was it blown in the original or with the b&w conversion? if you can pull that in, you've got a winner

1st one is a little boring, tight crop and more contrast.
The 2nd I love , the blown out look at to the started impression and the most important aspect is the eyes and there spot on, reallygood.
I spend most of my time snapping my kids in a home jigged studio, a white bed and single strobe but hey the results are great because its your kids, it makes it that little extra special.
