At the Mariner in Sandwich Ma. on Cape Cod amongst the lobster boats I found this most friendly Loon in winter plumage just preening and cleaning like spring was around the corner. It swam about 20 feet from me at times as it went from place to place. A most enjoyable sight and also allowing all full frame photos.
I took about 50 photos with the 40D and the 1 to 400 on the B/H and had so many good ones it was hard to pick as the loon swam from close to far from me but I wanted to keep the full photo. I hope you enjoy just click on the link.

Thanks Lil I find it strange if I place photos on a link so people have an eaiser time to open them and save space not to many will bother to open the link.but if I string 10 or 12 photos more people will look.

Lou you're looney! Just kidding. Lou, I would prefer to see the images here rather than link off to another site.

Hope to shoot next to ya some day.

Thanks Ted and yeah I know what you mean but I sometimes think of the guy with a Dial Up and how long it takes to get a bunch of photos. Not every place has the availability of cable or other faster than DU systems so I figure this is better for them. One click and than one more and you can sit back and watch a slide show at pretty good quality and I have placed higher rez photos sometimes as I don't think FM has to store them as they are on my web. HA=HA= And I though it was a win win but I guess not.

Lou, It looks like you had a great time with that happy little fellow. Steve W
Yes I did Steve and I have never seen a loon so close with access to the Cape Cod bay just a short ways. O my buddy and I also saw the ship the Enterprise coming back from her 6-month sea voyage with the Mass Maritime Academy crew. Nice sight
Thanks for the look

Socrate
Thanks Socrate, very pleased with the 40D and the 1 to 400 on the B/H nice to walk about with. It was the best of days we have seen in a long time.
I have been a bit busy as the eagles are still with me as I have been ask to help with a poster supporting the eagle up in Canada and I have been busy trying to get all the work done in large size. I have never been so busy getting photos published and this poster and not making any money. I guesss the word is out that I'm a soft touch for the bird people. I joined up with the Mass. Audubon and already I have been ask to help with the Osprey here on the Cape. I was working a bit on my own and had 6 nests GPS and trying for trespass permissions. Things look good.

Wonderful shots Lou, and it sounds like it was a lot of fun. I guess I'll have to make a trip up north this spring and summer to see if I can capture one of these loons. Nice job.

Doug
Well Doug one bed room empty and one with a Dell and the other is for me so your welcom to the first 2
These are in winter plumage as they tend to hang out in the salt water and will move to fresh as the weather warms or so I am told as the Loon is a Newbe to me. The only other time I saw one was while watching an eagle nest. I listened to their call on the net and it is beautiful. Thanks for the look.
