p.1 #1 · A Scrub Jay's Thanksgiving

Just got back from back Cachuma for Thanksgiving and I caught this Scrub Jay having a feast of his own. This is just a taste of the many scrub Jays I photographed. Happy Belated Thanksgiving. I hope your feast was as good as his!

Hi Brian,

A little flat because the light (or lack there of) but that sure is one fine meal, if you're a bird or a fish

Ken,

Thanks for the comment. I keep having trouble with "flat" looking photos. What can I do in Post Processing to make it "less flat"? I got a lot of others to work with.

good catch Brian....a good place to start to correct flatness is to save/convert from current AdobeRGB to sRGB. AdobeRGB will appear somewhat flat to most browsers. sRGB is pretty much standard

Dave

I'll be posting some more tomorrow so I will try that when I do. Maybe I'll include a before and after to get a good comparison going on. Thanks for the help

With just a little extra PP work it will pop quite a bit more than than the original you posted. Example:

Yes, that looks a lot better. Much more pop. How did you do it? what did you do in PS?

Mostly just contrast and saturation adjustments with a touch of USM to get the catch light in the eye to show. Don't be afraid to play with them sliders

Ok. I just checked these on my friends cpu and I realized that my monitor is not calibrated correctly. This may be the problem. Is Adobe Gamma a good way to calibrate a "sharp" brand monitor?
