Does anybody have any experience with the 10.5mm fish-eye and the de-fishing option of Nikon Capture ? Does it really allow to go virtually much wider than with 12mm on a 12-24mm zoom ? What about picture quality, remaining distortion ?

Best one : Sigma 10-20mm .I'am speaking as a ex owner of a 12-24mm Nikor.I also have a Tokina 12-24mm (And using my friends Tamron 11-18mm but he wants to sell the Tamron and want to buy a Sigma 10-20mm).That's my opinion

Mert, do you have any example with the same subject photographed at 10mm and 12mm from the same place to see the difference (are those 2mm worth the investment ?)
How does the distortion of the sigma compare to the tokina? One thing that's always bothered me with samples I've seen (and tests in store) has been the complex wavy distortion... I'd prefer simple barrel distortion which is easier to correct.

You do NOT want to de-fish 10.5mm images as a substitute for a true rectilinear wide angle. De-fishing will certainly straighten out the image, but pixels toward the edges are stretched. A round column will become an oval, a face will get distorted, and the stretched pixels will look soft in many cases. With the 10.5mm, keep people, in particular, near the center of the image.
Capture also crops a bit of the image during the de-fish.
Actually I just got the tokina 12-24mm and it's phenomenally better than the sigma, as far as curved distortions are concerned. There is minimal barrel distortion and that's about it.
The only fault I can find with it is the chromatic abberation (blue/yellow fringing near high contrast edges), but it's about what you'd expect from a super-wide and is much more tolerable to me than distortion. It takes a lot of effort to see fringing, distortion sticks out to any observer.
