Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 APO-Distagon

MTF for Zeiss Otus 28/1.4

Note that measured results at 10/20/40 line pairs/mm should NOT be compared to fantasy diffraction-ignoring computed results at 30 line pairs/mm (as is common practice in much of the industry). Or to computed MTF results (not measured), as is common practice in much of the industry. Zeiss uses white light and measures real lenses for these graphs.

These are measured results with white light of the Otus 28mm f/1.4.

MTF at infinity focus

Micro contrast at frame center when wide open at f/1.4 is not as high as its 55/1.4 APO-Distagon and 85/1.4 APO-Planar siblings. Zeiss has apparently opted for an exceptionally flat field (minimal field curvature) rather than higher peak central contrast and a dropoff in performance. In other words, the center, mid zone and corner areas are all but identical in quality. No other 28mm lens on the market can perform that way, and it results in an exceptionally uniform background.
