I would love to see some sample images taken with that combo and what that combination is capable of. ISO100-800 please. Thanks

I can post dozens, but here's a few at hand I took in NZ. The 7D and 100-400 can resolve a ton of detail if you get the focus right. Also I find this lens can track much better with the 7D than any previous non 1 series body I've owned and is probably on par with the 1D II.

There's NO lack of detail in ANY of the shots posted here that's for sure. I have just one question. How are you post processing to keep the noise levels at bay with that body. I had previously seen so many with troubles over that, even at ISO100. I see none of those issues here. Of course I'm not looking at 100% of the file either, but still. How are ya'll managing the noise?

I had a question about the 100-400, thought I'd see if it could get a response here rather than create a new thread. I'm looking to shoot indoors in an auditorium and was wondering if it was even possible to use the 100-400 in an indoor capacity in any way. My other choice was to rent out a 300 2.8.

To reduce noise, you need to do the post-process in DPP. It is unfortunate, as DPP is a rather slow raw processor, but it does the best with my 7D files. I now simply edit in Aperture and reopen my best images in DPP to make the most of the file. If anyone as some Aperture suggestions for RAW processing 7D images, let me in on your secret.

cheers,
bruce

Don`t believe everything you hear and read. Best to try it for yourself. When it comes to noise, my workflow hasn`t changed significantly because of the 7D. And yes, if you zoom in on the dark areas, you`re going to find some noise. That`s the case with any camera. Bottom line is that I like the output from the 7D.

Noise "problems" with the 7D say more about the conversion and processing decisions people make than the camera (these haven't been anywhere near ACR, Lr or DPP - Capture One 5 and PaintShop Pro X2 + Neat Image plugin if necessary do a great job):

1250 ISO:

800 ISO:

400 ISO:

Not much difference between 'em...

In fact with the crappy light the UK has had since I got my 7D, I've rarely been below 800 ISO, and frequently well above that - and the camera has been brilliant.

Same here, Henrik - I like the 7D's files a lot.

About the only subtantive change I've had to make to my workflow is to back off a little on the output sharpening - and that's a nice change to have to make, because the files are inherently a little sharper than my 40D's files (or rather the 7D is resolving more detail, so less sharpening is needed to bring the detail out).

I can see a slight "texture" in the sky or in OOF water sometimes, but I see much the same in my 40D files too - there's as much "noise" in this (I think 400 ISO) 40D shot as there is in my 1250 ISO Turnstone above:

7D "noise" just ain't a problem if you give the files a chance, and I've realised that I actually prefer it to the smooth background I dialled into this 40D shot:

Here's a couple of samples from me. 7D and 100-400L
Taken last week in a bird park, my first time ever doing bird photography and the first time I used 100-400 for other than doing test shoots around the house..and I find that I really enjoy bird photography and the 100-400

First one was taken @400mm wide open (f/5.6), 1/200 and the second one @160mm, f/5.6, 1/400, both ISO 800.
