I have the 35 Art and it is excellent in terms of sharpness and rendering, but I am not convinced of the AF in lower lighting, indoors. It is accurate, but I feel it does not lock on AF as well as the 105/1.4 and 58/1.4 with the D810 and D750. I have calibrated the 35 Art, and it is accurate, but I feel the algorithm in lower light is not quite as responsive.
For this reason alone, I am thinking the 35/1.4 G would be a better option, in spite of the price. Does anyone else have similar experiences with the 35 Art and then opted for the 35/1.4 G ?...Show more →
Yes, on the D810, not so with the D750. At weddings, especially with flash mounted, I found the Art lenses to perform subpar on the D810. With the D750 everything works fine, however. The Nikon 35 and 24 1.4G lenses didn't focus that fast, that is why I resorted to the Sigma Art lenses. I find the prices for the 24 and 35 1.4g lenses a bit too much, too, when comparing to other lenses like those from Sigma or Canon. From February 2017 on Nikon will increase prices again, the 58 is listed to be almost 2100 Euros then. So it looks like the 24, 35 and 58 1.4g lenses all are 2000 Euros and up in Germany. All my 35, 50 and 85 1.4 lenses from Sony look like a bargain compared to them.
