I was surprised to see there wasn't any image threads for this particular lens.

While most people are hooked on Sigma 35mm Art and 1.8G counterparts, this lens doesn't get any love....

Just received mine today. Test shot for now and definitely more to come!

Elijah,

I started searching for this thread about an hour ago (and i was thinking it was just a matter of time until you created one). I'm not right often in life but I'll take the win. Enjoy the lens!

Awesome! As it happened in the 28mm f/1.8G thread, I think I'll be the only one posting here

I'd join you, but after picking up a Nikon 24mm 1.4G, 58mm 1.4G and 200mm f2 VRII this year, my wife would kill me if I picked up this lens!

PS. To all the married photogs doing the same thing as me, my wife finally called me out: "I thought you said you were going to sell _____ lens in order to fund _____." 😬

I LOVE MY 35mm 1.4G - my favorite FL and lens. And I also have the 58, which I love too. Just to say emphasize how highly I regard this lens.

One shot from tonight.

I also didn't think it would be long before this thread appeared

I love the results that this lens creates, especially on the D700, so I will share a few. Just for fun here is a 58/35 comparison. Apologies for diluting the thread, but figures you might find the side by side of interest.

^^^^Great comparison showing the difference in compression between 35 and 58mm, and it also shows both lenses render beautifully in their own way.

I love my 35G. Use it mostly for people shots at events I can't post here, but I can post a picture that shows the great close-up ability of this lens.

Acquired the 58mm about a year ago. Just got the 24mm a few weeks ago. The 35mm is next.

Elijah, I'm sure you will do this lens justice and look forward to the posts. I tried the 35mm f/1.4G, but decided to stick with the f/1.8G version for now.

Oops put Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art images in the Nikon 35mm f1.4 thread. My bad!

Love this lens, compact, light, super accurate focus, built solid and smooth as silk. Here's few random images. Any vignette you see I added in post.

Umm... Yeah, the last image was definitely taken with an 85mm

After using this lens for the Christmas party today, I'm very impressed.
This lens is as sharp at 1.4 as my 58mm at f/2.0 or higher.

Good catch on the 85 Elijah, I think I was going back and forth with the 35 and 85 that day.

Here is lunch on me.

So....1.4, sigma art or 1.8g? Wedding photograpy mainly. I am.actually swinging towards the 1.8 due to the size and focus accuracy. 1.4 is nice but I would often shoot at 1.8 anyway.

I have the 35 Art and it is excellent in terms of sharpness and rendering, but I am not convinced of the AF in lower lighting, indoors. It is accurate, but I feel it does not lock on AF as well as the 105/1.4 and 58/1.4 with the D810 and D750. I have calibrated the 35 Art, and it is accurate, but I feel the algorithm in lower light is not quite as responsive.

For this reason alone, I am thinking the 35/1.4 G would be a better option, in spite of the price. Does anyone else have similar experiences with the 35 Art and then opted for the 35/1.4 G ?

Yes, on the D810, not so with the D750. At weddings, especially with flash mounted, I found the Art lenses to perform subpar on the D810. With the D750 everything works fine, however. The Nikon 35 and 24 1.4G lenses didn't focus that fast, that is why I resorted to the Sigma Art lenses. I find the prices for the 24 and 35 1.4g lenses a bit too much, too, when comparing to other lenses like those from Sigma or Canon. From February 2017 on Nikon will increase prices again, the 58 is listed to be almost 2100 Euros then. So it looks like the 24, 35 and 58 1.4g lenses all are 2000 Euros and up in Germany. All my 35, 50 and 85 1.4 lenses from Sony look like a bargain compared to them.

Thank you Fortunately in Australia there is an excellent used market for Nikon lenses so the choices are somewhat easier.

If I was shooting weddings (which I do) I would want the 35 1.4g. Not just for the wonderful Bokeh, but for the extra light for focusing in dark churches/venues, the focus accuracy, color, contrast, and extra build quality.
