Very nice series Bobby. The orange bird is a flame-colored tanager and not a summer tanager.

Hey ... it's you, Juan Carlos Vindas! I didn't recognize your handle or FM name! Folks - Juan Carlos was our guide in Costa Rica - and he is one amazing guide!

Here's a couple of sulphur-winged parakeets feeding on an apple farm.

Awesome shots. Glad I came in late as I got to see all the subsequent shots. I love the spinning head hummer.
This set reminds me I need to find some time to book a CR trip.

Great shots, Bobby! Which part of CR were these shot at? We spent 12 days split between the Osa Peninsula and the Arenal area and in both cases, the guides were just absolutely top notch! Don't even think of birding in CR without a guide - they make things so much easier and enjoyable. A shout out to Felix Campos at El Remanso lodge, in case he is reading!

Thanks Geoff! Let me know when you are ready to go - you will need a good guide who can take you to choice locations, depending on what you want to shoot.

Thanks Sam! We were in the Sarapiqui area by the Sarapiqui River and we stayed at the Selva Verde Lodge. Yes, the local guides are very well-trained and they certainly know the wildlife there - and where to find them. It would be extremely difficult to navigate the place and get the pictures you want without a good guide. If you are there strictly for photography a good guide is a must.

Hey Robert - thanks for dropping by! Yes, it was great fun and we did get a ton of good photos. We enjoyed it so much we are talking about returning next year to spend more time shooting the Quetzals in the cool highlands. We had only 1 hour to shoot the Quetzals on this trip (we had not planned on that) ... on the day of our departure!

These bats are not that easy to spot without a local guide. The Proboscis Bats blend very well with a tree bark. The Honduran White Bat is actually impossible to find, as they are usually found underneath a large heliconia leaf (similar to a banana leaf) - completely hidden from view. You have to crawl underneath the leaf to take a picture and a flash is indispensable.

Thanks Chris! Without the 300/4 PRO lens none of these bird photos would have been possible and I would have had to resort to shooting only frogs, snakes and such. Having said that, the E-M1 is next to useless for fast-moving animals and BIF. Hopefully the E-M1 II, which is scheduled to be announced at Photokina this October, will overcome some of that problem.
