I ran a test today and I think it performed quite well (if you exclude distortion).

I think Sony corrects CA for native lenses in their RAW files.

+1
Havenīt taken too many shots with the lens till now, but my first impressions are the same as yours.
This lens is not stellar but a solid performer for a kitlens

Thanks for the test, looks much better than some "useable" $4300 lens

Hey Phillip, first, thank you for taking time to post all the samples.

If you get bored and/or have time, can you post a pic of how the lens looks on NEX-7 or 5N or ?? Maybe snap a sample picture or two?? Of course, only if you have time and I should add a pretty pretty please on top of that.

I am curious how it would fare as a zoom lens for NEX bodies. Since 18-55 OSS is decent in the 20's range, it would nicely overlap & give a useful short tele range for the long end of the zoom. And it's cheap.

Looks pretty decent to me. The lens seems to have a funny kind of ghosting though (doubled reflections of the brightly lit pole of the street light in the top left of the last picture).

Thank you again, as suspected it's worth its price as kit zoom. What was ISO set to in these shots(there's no exif data)? When you have opportunity could you please make sample photos in daylight (low iso, f4-f11, similar to your sigma 24 shot [1])?

Awesome shots, and you're showing that it can really perform.
I got mine today, with the kit lens, and I too, like it.

Thanks for those!

Could you repeat the test against the MP @f/8? In my test it improved quite a bit @50mm once stopepd down to f/8.

Thanks,
Phillip

Surprisingly good. The others are better but nevertheless this is no slouch. I've ordered an a7. I did think about the a7r but nothing I've seen convinces me that it offers a significant step up from the a7 for the Ģ400 price difference. I did try the 28-70 lens and, pleasant surprise though these pics are, I hated the build, the low mass and the general cheap, plasticky feel it has - don't get the feeling its built to last. I shall await the new 24-70/4 Zeiss FE with impatience.
