- leaf shutter
- same small 35/2 is not duplicatable for A7
- I enjoy the OVF over an EVF
- aperture ring on lens is cool, although not all that important to me
- I masochistically like limiting my lens options

If the RX1 and A7 were both released today, I'd still buy the RX1. There's been a long history of selling fixed prime cameras alongside interchangeable lens cameras, although fixed prime cameras are certainly more niche. The X100/X100s is still a popular camera, despite the X-Pro1 and X-E1.

p.s. I bought my RX1 at Amazon Warehouse for $2250, so I'm not that worried about its value.

35mm is my favorite focal length and the rx1 has the best 35mm lens i've used.

it's a smaller combo than anything else i can get anytime soon that is close to equivalent.

those reasons are enough for me but the leaf shutter is nice too.

I guess reason is exactly same as when people used FF compact and fixed lens cameras in film days.

Nothing changed, only today we are finally bit closer to having FF digital camera sized as film cameras. Minus AF.

all of douglas's, and add:

- SOA EVF
- versatility
- macro
- bokeh and focus fade
- build quality
- silent operation (leaf shutter)
- lack of vibration (leaf shutter)
- resolution monster lens that has 'character'
- size/weight
- no dust on sensor, ever
- good menus and ergonomics, fine controls
- small and cheap batteries (can buy and carry several)
- fine AF, slow but solid
- extremely good high ISO performance
- perfect solution to the challenge of finding a top end 35mm FL lens
- camera plus lens is lighter than the ZE 35/2 alone
- ground breaking design, hand assembly, micron level tolerance on axis
- perhaps best corners of any 35mm FL lens
- small form factor and black body puts subjects at ease
- choice of OVF/EVF/LCD shooting

Overall, the highest output and best stealth camera ever made. Takes photos that the a7r would have me run out town for.

This is a great list. I have always used two cameras. For me the question now is whether or not to sell my 35 and 40mm lenses. I have a lot of great lenses for my Nex 6. They are all going to be well used except for the 35 and 40mm on the new A7r. Why would I ever want to use a 35mm lens inferior to what I have on the RX1?

A7(r) is nice if you have a lot of Leica m glass but I don't and I'm just fine with my D800E and zf 21 and R 100/2.8 APO and RX1. They make a great combo and give me top notch IQ. The silent leaf shutter is worth a lot to me.

Great thread, I'm agreeing with all of those points and as for the 36 MP in the A7R? Well from the samples I've seen I still prefer the 'look' from my Merrills.

Everything has been said already, but these could be my personal reasons why I would still keep the RX1 now that the A7(R) has been announced:

- Very discrete camera. You have the option to take the EVF off when you want it to look like a P&S camera. It's also silent because of the leaf shutter.
- Tiltable EVF.
- The 35/2 Sonnar is an incredible lens.
- Having an aperture ring is nice.

I wouldn't say this, because I've seen people getting dust on their sensor.
My first copy had dust on the sensor right out of the box, but that entered at assembly. However, I was able to suck one of those large dust particles out with a vacuum cleaner. I just put it (on low power) on the empty battery compartment.
This means: if you can get dust out... it can also enter.

While I was shooting my RX1 yesterday, I realized just how much I love the silky quiet leaf shutter. For what I use that camera for, a loud shutter would be intrusive somewhat. I also use the camera at chest level with the EVF tilted up. Both of these are critical aspects to my RX1 use. Combined with the physical aperture ring on the lens, the solid feel of the body and the incredible lens, even if I do end up with an A7r, I will likely keep my RX1. 35mm is also my favorite FL. They are really completely different animals (with different pro's and cons) despite a few obvious aesthetic similarities.

In addition:
- Smaller and Lighter
- Leica similar build quality and full metal body and dials (A7 is almost all plastic)
- Silent shutter (A7 sounds loud)
- Precision aligned and matched lens-to-sensor design, sharper than and unattainable by any FF interchangeable camera with a similar Zeiss lens (including the A7 + Zeiss 35mm most likely)

Btw: I don't have an RX1 nor the A7 (I am an ex-5D, 5D2, 60D, Nex 5n, OMD user; and currently only have the Ricoh GR)

...but with the A7's recent announcement, I have been researching more and more about the RX1. I know it's been out for quite some time; but I never got around to reading about it until the A7 was announced; mostly because the RX1's high price put me off and I thought I could never afford one. But then I realized they could be had for so cheap on the used market. I was super attracted to the A7...but the more I read about the RX1, it has much more that I want (f2 lens, metal build quality, smaller and lighter, super sharp and super IQ, etc.) over the A7 and is also much cheaper if bought used than an A7+Zeiss lens.

So me, not even having an RX1, and with the announcement of an exciting new A7...I would STILL pickand want an RX1... time to start saving

ps: I just hope Sony doesn't phase out the RX1 model, because of the new A7. I hope they continue on making the RX1. The people Need a small, fixed, compact, high-quality, FF camera in the world

I love the looks and feel of the camera and of course the quality of the Zeiss lens. Changing cameras wouldn't give me any better images. I have other cameras with interchangeable lenses.

If Sony comes out with an Alpha mount version of the A7 with IBIS, I will probably get that, but still keep the RX1R.

If I am just carrying one camera, its the RX1R.

Pah! Ludicrous suggestion Ken. I highly doubt anyone on here has only 1-2 bodies. Try 6-7...
