p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Two old gems - the 28/85 combo

This weekend, I brought out old gems again...

My 85mm/28mm combo at work.

First, dog photography with 28mm! (?) All on D3, slightly cropped:

Going outside, the 85 got on - and yes, it CAN be stopped down...

even a bit more:

Nikon D3 - AF Nikkor 85mm 1:1.4D - 1:3.2, 1/1250, ISO 200, A, Matrix +/- 0.0

and it works in color also - surprisingly

Nikon D3 - AF Nikkor 85mm 1:1.4D - 1:2.5, 1/3200, ISO 200, A, Matrix - 0.3

No, I don't need a new lens. And I don't need a new camera. And I don't need...

Nice! But what 28mm and 85mm Nikkors do you have?

Doesn't it say so in the picture data? hmm...

The AF 85mm 1:1.4D and the AF 28mm 1:1.4D.

No I didn't see it anywhere displayed.

Thanks

Wonderful images Roland. I really like your approach to converting images as well. There is a richness to the palette you use. Nicely done. And yes, these are two excellent lenses despite their age and the fact gelded lenses have come on the scene to replace them... I have the 85 f/1.4D and can't imagine letting it go.

But the exif doesn't say if it's an 85/1.4 D, G or AIS, etc.
The "rookie" OP could have easily included this in the post to avoid my having to download the image and dig into the exif to find that it's a 28/1.4 (which there is only one of these ever made by Nikon) and what aperture was used and the 85/1.4 (of which there are several models of these by Nikon) and what aperture was used as well

Great images nonetheless and the OP is obviously skilled in the use of such fine lenses . . .

The 28 1.4D is just magical piece of glass and you really make it sing in these shots. There are newer lenses out there, but the 28 1.4 along with the Noct will never truly be replaced.

Not only "could". "Should"!

Sorry, my fault, obviously. Left out something I normally post.

Thank you all for the replies and the encouraging critics.

Lovely work. There is a gorgeous smooth but sharp look to these conversions.

Beautiful work, Roland! I like the cheerful atmosphere of your shots just like your B&W-conversions. The AF 85/1.4D is one of my most used and loved lenses, would love to try the rare AF 28/1.4D sometimes (in the meantime the less expensive AF-S 28/1.8G and my old 28/2's have to work ;-)

The "shame" is: I got my 28/1.4 for the same price as the 85/1.4.

Both used, in Zurich, around CHF 700 each. In top condition. So I made a real steal on that 28... be it rare now or not.

I thought about selling it... but then why? It's wonderful.

Nice work! I also am a fan of your B&W conversion, the tones are quite nice.
I use my F/4 zoom kit quite often, but in the past few weeks have been going out with only the 50/1.2 AIS or 85/1.4 AF-D. It's been fun to use these "vintage" primes again, they are truly fantastic lenses.

Yeah, especially the 85/1.4d is one of my favorites.

the B&W is out of cam, with the smallest amount of toning one can choose in the picture control settings.
