@Phillip Reeve, I tried to analyse all your pics of this lens at 4900X3264, all has too much compromised areas some still there at f/9.0.
For a landscape shooting the distorsions, CA and sharpness are the most wanted, beside that the resolution of the lens/sensor will guarantee the distant/back ground clarity/fine detail. That is why the high class lens has floating system, Apo (Apochromat), or SA (Superachromat), all that for correction of the optical faults, if no correction so the fault is there inevitable.Even that for marketing some lenses have APO mark like Apo-Lanthar 90mm or many Sigma APOs still produce lots

to be honest: I don't care that much about distortions or CA. They are easily removable. I took my best images either with the G28 or CV15 which both show below average corner performance but i like the results a lot none the less.
But I think that is just personal taste, you wouldn't like my lenses, I would try to change something about your colors.
I agree that too few images are analyzed and too many opinions just taken for ones own.

Lenses and cameras come and go.The faster we learn them the quicker we let them out and the "stronger" vision we will have and of-course vise versa.
I 've been here for about 3 years, I see that process clearly of some major persons on Alt FM Forum.
For me Alt means seeking for a better not a "Canikon exclusion" as the definition.
Colors is definite a matter of taste no more words.I even had a discussion with a FMer on 1 of my pics that I set at O palette and was a good taste for me, but he kept in mind his 10C palette of northern hemisphere.
There was a long explanation after.
So tastes are different is not a big deal.
I reluctantly agree that digital correction might replace optical distorsions, at some level might be acceptable but not all.
Chromatic aberration CA is the real big problem, until now the digital correction process is an erasing/changing the unfocused color to grey, results in the color of that area contents only 2 colors and a grey line, I can not accept that correction or rather call it a compromising.
And if 3 colors are not in 1 point , you nerver get real color's sharpness, that is why people keep there color image as tiny as possible or change them to B&W.
And yeah too few people go for under the sun exposure and too many keyboard heros not mention to the Real Alting Process.

I see some wavy distortion. Normally that's not a problem, but with those horizontal lines, it's a bit distracting

I love lenses and cameras but it always stick in my (front)head that the eye in combination with the brain is the most important instument of them all and that all gear can be replaced.

BTW What do you mean by the Real Alting Process? I mean, I like the special alt lens/modern camera combinations you make but in what sense there are so many people not going for under the sun exposure?
I don't understand this remark at all

Typical of many wide Zeiss lenses Actually they have a mustache shaped distortion disease and very difficult to correct.
They are not perfect as, thank god, nothing in life is really.

I know, the 21 has it too, but Lightroom has lensprofiles on board that straightens those lines

It's not pretty, it's not very well lit, and it is not composed in the traditional manner, but I love my wife, and she is beautiful!
