p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Gimje Horizon Festival (Korean Rice Festival)

Spent a few hours at a local festival today. Once again, not impressed with the results, but wanted to share a few of the better ones. Still working on trying to get sharp images. C&C welcome.

1. These gentlemen looked interesting and probably have many years worth of great stories. Regret not shooting at a smaller aperture.

2. This little boy was helping his mother get some rice from an old style rice cooker. He turned and posed for my friend. I liked how his left hand was also holding out two fingers.

3. A large group of entertainers were preparing to start a march. We waited for a few minutes and decided to move on. I tend to shoot wide so I decided to focus a little closer and grabbed this.

4. There were a lot of families lined up at the top of this hill flying kites. I ended up buying one for my daughters.

5. This doll had just finished playing some drums. She gave a few smiles while she was playing, that I missed, but gave me this hint of a smile as she passed by.

6. A man and a teen practiced gathering and throwing water using an old water gathering technique.

7. These kids were so excited to play the drums!

8. I grabbed this shot of an elderly woman trying her hand at the drums. About 15 seconds sooner and I might have had a much better shot.

9. Saw this couple, which I found unusual, sporting some motorcycle attire.

10. Not thrilled about the from-behind-shot, I asked to take their portrait.

11. This gentleman had the look of many years of life in his eyes and on his face. I regret shooting wide open and missed the focus, which I did manually.

As always, not looking for anything I can't learn from. I shot a series last weekend, mostly at 2.8 so I tried to stay around 5.6-8.0, but it seems it still just wasn't enough.

Thanks for looking - Kevin

Don't know why you're so down on these. They are really nice.

Thanks, TJ and Jonathan. After receiving a few positive comments, I'm forcing myself to not think these suck. Would much rather be confident in my images...can't stand getting back after a 200-300 shot walk around and finding that I don't like any of them. I'll get better in time.

Kevin,

They certainly don't suck, but that doesn't mean you don't have room for improvement or rather the desire to improve your work. I would say that the first three and the last one are the strongest ones here. I like 7 too, but I might crop it a little in on the right and left.

Excellent work. You have a good eye for finding a scene that tells a story.

Thanks Caleb, Rob, and jsbeith...I appreciate the kind words. I do know I still have a lot of improving to do, but maybe I'm not quite as far off as I thought I was. Everyone is their own worst critic...well, almost everyone.
