D3300 Primary Features

1. An effective pixel count of 24.2-million pixels, a Nikon DX-format CMOS sensor with no optical low-pass filter, and the latest image-processing engine, EXPEED 4, for superior image quality and support for high sensitivities

The camera offers an effective pixel count of 24.2-million pixels. Adoption of a DX-format CMOS sensor with no optical low-pass filter enables capture of images that make the most of the superior resolution of NIKKOR lenses. In addition, the latest image-processing engine, EXPEED 4, with even faster processing capabilities, provides significantly better image quality at high sensitivities and improved noise reduction (NR). The camera supports a broad range of standard sensitivities, from ISO 100 to 12800, as well as additional expansion up to the equivalent of ISO 25600 (Hi 1), for high-definition images exhibiting very little noise with shooting at a broad range of sensitivities.

2. Excellent basic performance for capture of decisive moments

High-speed continuous shooting at approximately 5 fps*

High-speed processing with the latest image-processing engine, EXPEED 4, enables faster continuous shooting of up to approximately 100 JPEG images (JPEG fine/Large) or approximately 11 NEF (RAW) images with a single burst at approximately 5 fps*. This allows users to capture those decisive moments when photographing rapidly moving subjects, such as children participating in sporting events.

  • *With manual focus, [S] (shutter-priority auto) or [M] (manual) shooting mode, shutter speed 1/250 s or faster, and other settings at default values.

Approximately 0.85x high-magnification viewfinder

The D3300 is equipped with an approximately 0.85x high-magnification viewfinder with a frame coverage of approximately 95%. It enables framing of images as intended with intuitive display of information and visual elements.

3. A variety of Special Effects and image retouch functions that expand the ways in which users enjoy still images and movies

The D3300 is equipped with Special Effects modes, with which effects can be selected and applied with recording of both still images and movies. Preview in the camera monitor before shooting or recording begins allows users to confirm the results of effect selection in real time. The camera also offers image retouch functions that can be applied at will to images already captured. This allows users to easily enjoy dramatic effects like those seen in art, cartoons, and the movies. These functions were adopted to respond to the creative intent of users searching for ways to express their own unique style and creativity.

4. Operation that supports comfortable shooting

Guide Mode that makes capturing images as intended simple

By simply enabling Guide Mode, users can capture photos as intended according to the situation or scene, by following instructions displayed in the camera monitor. As the effects of settings can be previewed along with a simple explanation displayed in the monitor, users get a clearer idea of resulting images. This enables simple operation through the entire photography process, from shooting to playback, image editing, and application of settings, even for those using an SLR camera for the first time.

An button that allows immediate access to functions for users who want to adjust settings

The button, positioned to the bottom left of the camera's monitor, enables simple access to convenient functions with viewfinder and live view photography, as well as image playback. Settings for necessary functions can be applied or adjusted directly as needed.

5. A monocoque structure with which a new material was adopted for a smaller and lighter body that is strong and durable

The camera cover is designed with a single box-type monocoque structure for which a new material made of carbon fiber has been adopted. This new material is just as strong and rigid as aluminum or magnesium, and it allows for a monocoque structure that increases the strength of the body while allowing us to make it lighter with revisions to the internal structure of the camera.

When used with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II retractable-barrel kit lens released at the same time as the D3300, the combination of camera and lens is compact, measuring approximately 124 mm wide, 98 mm high, and 126 mm deep (75.5 mm deep for the camera only) and lightweight, weighing just 655 g*.

Further, adoption of an easy-to-hold grip for the camera makes for an extremely portable system that maintains stability with shooting.

  • *Including battery and SD memory card; excluding lens cap.

6. D-Movie function for recording 60p full-HD movies

The D3300 is equipped with a D-Movie function that supports recording of smooth 60p full-HD movies. The new EXPEED 4 image-processing engine enables recording of movies exhibiting even less of the noise that occurs at high sensitivities. Manual movie settings are also available, allowing users to choose the desired shutter speed and ISO sensitivity.
The unique characteristics of individual NIKKOR lenses can be used to record even more beautiful and impressive movies possible only with an SLR camera.

7. Collaboration with smart devices supports wireless transfer of images and remote shooting*

By simply connecting the Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a (available separately), still images captured with the D3300 can be easily transferred to a smart device, such as a smartphone or tablet, over a wireless connection*. The size at which images are transferred to a smart device can be selected in accordance with the storage capacity of the smart device or the way in which the images will be used. The display on the smart device can also be used to frame images and control shooting remotely (movie recording not supported). Collaboration with smart devices provides new ways for users to enjoy shooting, viewing, and sharing photographs.

  • *The Wireless Mobile Utility app must be installed on the smart device beforehand (the app can be downloaded free of charge from the smart device's app store).
