Product Description
The Jobu Design Black Widow Jr.3 gimbal (BWG-J3K) is smaller, lighter and more flexible than its predecessor. The ball head is about 2.5 cm lower than its predecessor. In addition, using a hollow aluminium base arm, this swivel head is 30 grams lighter. The HM-J2 detachable swing arm is machined from a single solid unmoulded aluminium block. As a result, the Jr. 3 is more rigid and stronger than its predecessor making this pendant head ideal for travel. Needle roller bearings ensure smooth tilt behaviour at full load and more accurate friction adjustment. The blocking force is increased by 200% causing enormous rigidity, which prevents unwanted vibrations in the head. In addition, the rubberised adjustment knobs make the control comfortable to use, making it easy to adjust even with gloves. The Jobu Design Jr.3 comes with a quick release plate compatible with Arca-Swiss with a 3/8 inch screw thread. This swivel head has been designed for lenses and devices weighing up to 5 kilograms. - -

The range of gimbal head quality and price is astounding.
Wimberley has an established/respected product but I was looking for something a bit cheaper and lighter. This Jobu head works. It supports my Canon 300mm f/2.8 with negligible gimbal flexure. With long lenses tripod mechanical resonances are a problem but wimpy gimbal heads are absolutely a disaster (see my review of the Desmond product). The result of poorly designed gimbal heads is noticeable lens angular oscillations.
Two small issues with this gimbal are:
(1) The short tilt arm leaves the center of my lens about 1 cm above the tilt bearing. This causes instability with no tilt friction set.
(2) A tilt friction washer which has significant stiction problems. Tilt starts hard then breaks loose.
I still like this product. Its good rigidity and low weight overcome these issues. My rigidity evaluation was based on observed photo quality and measured lens movement tracked with 2-axis accelerometers.
and, soon i will purchase Canon 300 lens and will be mounted on Jobu Gimbal. Would recommend this to a friend.
