Has anyone using a 100-400 L on a 7D noticed the high camera resolution taxing the capability of the lens ? I'm picking on the 7D only because it has a very high pixel density. I would expect the lens/camera combo to produce sharp images at web size and even somewhat larger but if you make large prints or if you pixel peep then you might be aware that it doesn't seem to be as sharp as it used to be. I feel that way about my 100-400 on my 1D4 but I'm not sure whether it is real or just that I've been using sharper prime lenses on the same camera.

My 100-400 (a good copy) is still very sharp with the 7D at 400 mm wide open.

The 100-400L can reveal stunning detail with the 7D. I don't think it's holding back the sensor. With the 7D good technique is essential to maximise IQ, get it right and the results are superb, get it wrong and hit the delete key.

All I know is that (without any MFA) my 100-400mm is sharper on my 7D than is was on my 40D - and it's great on the 40D...

+1 My 7D is sharper then my 40D w/ the 100-400 but my 5DM2 and 1DM3 trump the 7D w/ this lens.

Thanks guys. I guess it must just have been because I'd been using the primes on much the same subjects - one of the downsides of having a 300 f/2.8 L IS and a 600 f/4 L IS, but I don't expect any sympathy

Where did I put my violin?

I am very happy with the combination. This is not a large file but has no PP sharpening.
