p.1 #1 · 7D MRAW ISO 3200 sample

A very sore back has reduced me to lying on a heating pad, being mad at the world, and taking pictures of cats in the house and the occasional squirrel in the backyard. Not always in that order. For the brief time I was upright today I played with MRAW and came away impressed. I don't know what MRAW is, some kind of lossless compression that averages pixel data, I guess, but so far I like it. Here's a sample at ISO 3200.

EDIT: This is AI Servo, single point with helpers.

7D, 500mm w/1.4x, ISO 3200, 1/500 @ 5.6. Processed in DPP, sharpening at +6, noise reduction at 2/20

Not too bad.
How big is a 7D MRaw?

It's RAW being resized.

Very nice photo and composition... I need to try mRAW.

Do we see the previously noted "black dandruff" in these images?

I ran some tests when I got the camera and have arrived at the conclusion that mRAW/sRAW doesn't necessarily equate to better ISO noise performance...

I'm really impressed by the lack of color in the noise, 3200 is quite usable in a situation like this, and would probably look great in print.

Don't judge this image for sharpness, as there is a teleconverter used, and it's 1/500 at 700mm.

Thanks for posting your sample, the lure of the 7d is prevalent. If only Canon made a 24-105 equivalent for 1.6 sensors...
