General Questions - Back

1) I am having difficulties installing the actions. Is there an easy way of doing it? - Back
There are several ways of installing Photoshop actions. The default step-by-step that will work with all Photoshop versions and operation systems (PC and MAC) is the following:

All you need is the ".atn" Photoshop action file. So uncompress the zip you downloaded.

FM actions are compressed in Zip (.zip) format and must be uncompressed before loading into Photoshop.
If you don't have a compression utility installed on your PC or MAC, download a free version of StuffIt Expander from below:

MAC - http://www.stuffit.com/expander/macindex.html
PC - http://www.stuffit.com/expander/winindex.html

Please take a few moments to create a backup of the attached action(s), on either a floppy or CD. (We do not email replacement copies)

Open Photoshop, go to the actions palette, on the top right of the palette, click on the little triangle (delta) and from the menu choose “load actions...”.
Find where you uncompressed the “.atn" file and click on load.

Then in the actions palette, find the set action you loaded and open its subsets. Find the option you would like and press play.

2) Can different action versions work with different cameras? - Back
Only FM Actions and Plugins found in the Essential Digital Darkroom (For all digital cameras) work with different cameras files and scanned film.

Custom-made Actions/Plugins will only work properly with the camera files they were designed for.

For example: The D60 LPbatch action will only work properly with D60 linear tiff files. The same goes for SI, ISOR and CS actions.

3) Do I have to purchase actions individually or you also offer a package? - Back
Currently, all FM Photoshop Actions and Plugins are only offered individually.

4) What is the difference between 8-bit versus 16-bit Actions/Plugins? - Back
I have workarounds for some FM actions to work in 16-bit mode.
However most actions require the use of many layers and this is not yet possible in 16-bit mode with Photoshop 7.

I have great expectations that all FM actions will work in 16-bit mode when Photoshop 8 is released.

Keep in mind that the only image editing that benefits from a 16-bit file are tonal, color correction and interpolation.
That is why all LPbatch, Stair Interpolation Pro (SI), WP Pro, Digital Velvia (DV) and Film Emulation (FE) Actions and Plugins work in 16-bit mode.
